DATES:    Workshops    start    the    day    before    the    show    opens: Thursday, Friday and Saturday - June 1 - 3, 2017 TIME:      All   workshops   are   full   day,   9AM   to   4PM,   are   six   hours of   instruction   with   an   hour   off   for   lunch.      Restaurants   and fast food are conveniently located. LOCATION:      Workshops   will   be   held   at   the   Radisson   Hotel, 175    Jefferson    Rd.,    Rochester,    NY        (Located    next    to    RIT Campus, show special accommodations available ) COST:      Each   workshop   costs   $75   and   includes   a   weekend   pass to   the   quilt   show.      Some   of   the   workshops   also   require   the purchase   of   a   kit   which   is   paid   to   the   instructor   the   day   of   the class. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS Wholecloth Painting: Botanicals by Susan Brubaker Knapp, Thurs. June 1, 2017 Experience Level: All No sewing machine needed Supplies required Kit Fee: $25 Click for: Workshop Write-up Supply List Students will learn the basics of creating wholecloth painted quilts based on photos. Students can choose from the four projects shown above, and will work from line drawings and my photos to recreate the image using acrylic textile paints.  Afraid to try this technique? Don’t be! My students get great results. We will cover: selecting the right photos for great results which paints and fabrics to use and why how to transfer your design to fabric painting and blending techniques quilting considerations Tyvek: Paint, Melt, Stitch by Susan Brubaker Knapp, Fri. June 2, 2017 Experience Level: All Sewing machine and supplies required Kit Fee: $10 Click for: Workshop Write-up Supply List Learn how to create fascinating texture and pattern while you create a small art quilt with pieces of melted Tyvek and stitched designs. We will cover: painting and melting Tyvek creating an abstract design with Tyvek pieces stitching on melted Tyvek creating doodled, stitched designs for an interesting background quilting considerations Coloring Your Quilts by Patricia Harrison, Fri. June 2, 2017 Experience Level:  All No sewing machine needed Kit Fee: $10 Click for workshop write-up/supply list Become more confident using color in your quilts!  This is a full day workshop where colors, their relationships, and their effects on each other will be explored in a number of ways to accommodate a variety of learning styles.  Class will include lecture, hands-on color play, computer color design play (EQ7) and a trunk show of quilts. Live video camera feed is used for demonstrations throughout this workshop enabling each student to clearly see how a technique is done Can’t Bear to Cut It Up! by Kathryn Greenwold, Sat. June 3, 2017 Experience Level:  All Sewing machine and supplies required No kit fee Click for workshop write-up/supply list This workshop will help you use your favorite landscape, cityscape, pictorial fabric, or artistic prints while using larger pieces of the fabric to preserve the unique design elements. A variety of class samples will be presented and a number of quilting techniques will be discussed. Each finished quilt will be unique to the maker.  Photo is only an idea of how to use some of your fabric.  Your fabric will decide what your quilt looks like. “Twisted” Quilt Series by Patricia Harrison, Sat. June 3, 2017 Experience Level:  All Sewing machine and supplies required No kit fee Click for workshop writeup/supply list A full day workshop creating a quilt top from my series of three “Twisted” quilts.  The three quilts were all designed in EQ7 using one block that is rotated and flipped to create strong graphic designs.  Live video camera feed is used for demonstrations throughout this workshop enabling each student to clearly see how a technique is done.
